Q: What is melatonin?
A: Melatonin is a natural hormone produced by the pineal gland in the brain and then released into the bloodstream. It is a central part of the body’s sleep-wake cycle. Its production increases with evening darkness, promoting healthy ZZZs and helping to orient our circadian rhythm. The hormone can also be produced externally, and is a common addition to sleep promoting supplements, like our Good Night Capsules.
Q: Why 2mg of melatonin in each capsule?
A: We were thoughtful when we formulated our Good Night Capsules and took a research-backed approach to the amount of melatonin the product contains. There is a lot of data suggesting taking more than 5 mg of melatonin for the average person could result in grogginess and could even have the opposite effect and cause sleeplessness. At 2mg of melatonin, you can start with one capsule and see if you need to add a second one to your nightly routine.
Q: Elixinol's capsules are made with full-spectrum hemp extract. What does that mean exactly?
A: Think of full-spectrum as getting the full benefits of the whole hemp plant. Full-spectrum extracts include beneficial terpenes and flavonoids that work together for an 'entourage effect'. You will not get high from using our products.
